Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS) Data

Updated 6/19/07

Source: Camden County Department of Health & Human Services

The August 2005 Camden County Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS) questionnaires included telephone questionnaires to 1,126 Camden County residents. When conducting this survey, the Camden County Department of Health & Human Services intentionally oversampled in Camden City including 348 residents.  This analysis was part of the MAPP process coordinated by the County Health Department.

Maribeth Robenolt, an MPH student at the UMDNJ School of Public Health, prepared the analysis of the Camden City data in 2006.

Some key findings:

  • There are significant differences between Camden City residents and residents in the rest of the County in terms of access to health care, substance use, responsible sexual behavior, mental and physical health, and demographic barriers.
  • 57% of respondents from Camden City reported smoking cigarettes every day or some day.
  • 79% of respondents from Camden City reported having some form of health care coverage, compared with 91% of respondents from the rest of the county.
