Version 1.2

New update coming December 2006 to include public assistance data

CAMConnect, a non-profit organization in the City of Camden, is pleased to release a new handout called “Camden Numbers & Data” that summarizes key information and data about South Jersey’s largest city.

CAMConnect has created an easy to understand document with various data in topics that include health, government, economics & education, and public safety.  For instance, did you know that 47 percent of Camden’s population is under the age of 25?  Or that crime in Camden declined between 2004 and 2005?  These statistics are just some of the many important and eye-opening data included in this handout.

According to Derek Ziegler, Executive Director of CAMConnect, “This document is a great addition to the data on Camden that we already have available through CAMConnect.  We hope that this document inspires people to learn more about Camden.”

The new “City of Camden Numbers & Data” will be distributed throughout the month of August and beyond.  The one page document will be shared with Camden residents through the use of an innovative canvassing strategy that will go through Camden’s main commercial corridors.  This strategy is intended to insure that Camden residents who may not have access to computers are fully empowered with the data that is included in the handout.

“People will be able to know more about their city with all types of information,“ said Sean Brown, who developed the idea for the “Camden Numbers & Data” handout.  Brown works on community outreach for CAMConnect through the AmeriCorps / VISTA program.

In addition to the copies made available through the street canvass, this document is available on CAMConnect’s website, www.camconnect.org .  Supporting documentation and additional context will be updated on a weekly basis.

CAMConnect is devoted to creating a learning partnership in Camden, New Jersey, with the belief that sharing and using data will lead to informed decisions and better policy making to improve the quality of life for all Camden residents.  CAMConnect has over 40 members including residents and community organizations.  Previously, CAMConnect has produced original reports on topics including voter participation, the municipal budget, health, and neighborhood data reports for each Camden Census tract.
